A Recommendation to Enhance Transparency of Strom Thurmond Wellness and Fitness Center Occupancy Data

Recommends the Strom Thurmond Wellness & Fitness Center make real-time occupancy data publicly available to students and staff.

Summary

The Strom Thurmond Wellness & Fitness Center is one of the most frequented facilities on campus, but unlike Thomas Cooper Library and Russell House, it does not provide real-time occupancy data. Since all students must swipe their CarolinaCard to enter, the data already exists — it just isn’t shared.

This recommendation directs the Wellness Center to make real-time occupancy data publicly available, whether by partnering with the Waitz app or developing a similar internal platform. This helps students plan their workouts, avoid overcrowding, and make better use of the facility their fees pay for.
